40 Powerful Psalm 91 Prayer Points for Divine Protection

Divine protection is the covenant right of every believer. As a believer, you have a blood bought right to be safe from danger, no matter what shape it takes.

If you are the kind of person who travels often, work in a risky environment, or simply feel the weight of living in a world full of uncertainty, then you must understand divine protection. You must understand how to stand on the unshakable promise of God.

Psalm 91 has been called the soldier’s psalm, the protection psalm, and the warfare psalm. Believers throughout history have prayed it in danger, in sickness, in persecution, and in ordinary mornings.

Many of them describe the same quiet effect: even when circumstances did not change at once, fear lost its grip and trust in God grew stronger.

These 40 powerful Psalm 91 prayer points for divine protection are for anyone who wants to cover their life, family, and future with God’s promises. They will help you pray through the psalm verse by verse, so that you know what you are asking and why you can trust Him.

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1

Before we pray, let us see what the psalm promises, what it asks of us, and how to use it every day.

The Promises Packed Into Psalm 91

Psalm 91 has sixteen verses full of God’s assurances. It speaks of protection from hidden traps (verse 3), from disease and plague (verses 3 and 6), from terror and fear (verse 5), from sudden attacks (verse 5), and from destruction (verse 6). It speaks of angelic care (verse 11), authority over harmful forces (verse 13), and God’s personal attention and deliverance (verses 14 to 16).

These promises belong to those who dwell in the secret place of the Most High. That means living in a close relationship with God, staying connected to Him through prayer and worship, and making Him your refuge and fortress. The psalm points to a few simple conditions: dwell in His presence (verse 1), trust Him (verse 2), love Him (verse 14), and know His name (verse 14).

A word of honesty is important. Psalm 91 does not teach that a believer will never meet trouble. Even faithful people experience illness, loss, and hardship. What the psalm promises is that God is with us in trouble, that He is our refuge, and that He delivers according to His wisdom and love (verse 15). We pray with confidence, and we also trust Him when His answer looks different from our expectation.

Walking Through Psalm 91 Verse by Verse

Verses 1 and 2: The Foundation

“I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” Psalm 91:2

The secret place is not a physical location. It is a position of closeness with God. To abide under His shadow means to live in His presence everywhere you go.

Verses 3 to 8: The Promises

These verses list protection from the fowler’s snare, from deadly pestilence, from terror by night, from the arrow by day, from the pestilence that walks in darkness, and from destruction at noon. They also describe God’s tender care, as He covers you like a bird covers her young. Verse 7 says a thousand may fall at your side, but it shall not come near you, which reminds us that God can keep us even when trouble surrounds us.

Verses 9 to 13: The Guarantee

Because you have made the Lord your habitation, no evil befalls you, no plague comes near your dwelling, and angels are given charge over you. They keep you in all your ways and bear you up. You are also promised authority over the lion, the adder, and the dragon, which represent every kind of danger.

Verses 14 to 16: The Reward

“Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him.” Psalm 91:14 to 15

Here God speaks in the first person. He promises to deliver, to set on high, to answer when you call, to be with you in trouble, and to honor you with long life and His salvation.
